Welcome to Lakes and Birds
Lakes and Birds is a sizable residential neighborhood located in the northern part of Fremont, California. The neighborhood is primarily a residential area, with a mix of small block-built attached homes on modestly sized lots built by Gentry Homes to large raised foundation detached homes on substantially bigger lots built by Ponderosa at Ponderosa Country.
The Lakes and Birds neighborhood was developed in the 1970s and 1980s, during a period of rapid growth in the San Francisco Bay Area. The neighborhood was named after its two primary features: the several small lakes and ponds located throughout the neighborhood, and the abundance of bird life in the area.
The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate with bay breeze cooled evenings making gardens flourish and air-conditioning optional. On that basis alone, Lakes and Birds can take some of the credit for Fremont being named happiest city in America in a February report from WalletHub in 2023 for several years running but there’s so much more.
The area is known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities with public tennis, basketball courts and batting cages nearby. The neighborhood's proximity to 1266 acres of Coyote Regional Park, Alameda Creek and the bay makes bird-watching a popular pastime. Surrounding parks, trails and open spaces offer ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities.
The neighborhood is also located near several major shopping centers, including Union Landing built on acreage where the iconic Union City Drive-In Movie Theater once stood, offering a variety of retail, restaurants, movie theaters and big box stores. To keep even the most active of us entertained there’s Indoor Skydiving at iFLY. Anthony Marinelli with The Marinelli Real Estate Team fondly recalls the kids in their pajamas with their pillows in the back seat at the Drive-In.
The Lakes and Birds neighborhood is conveniently located near major transportation corridors, including the I-880 and I-680 freeways, as well as the Fremont BART station, which provides easy access to other parts of the Bay Area.
Overall, the Lakes and Birds neighborhood is a peaceful and natural community, offering a mix of residential, recreational, and commercial opportunities. Its abundance of natural beauty and convenient location make it a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. Fremont Properties - a solid investment.
